Canberra City Farm

Founded in 2012, CANBERRA CITY FARM is a vibrant 2-hectare hub in Kamberri/Canberra, nestled beside the Jerrabomberra Wetlands on Ngunnawal land.

The Farm has grown into a vibrant hub for learning, collaboration, and action, inspiring Canberrans to reconnect with nature and create a greener, more sustainable future.

The Farm has connected me and my friend more as we chat away while tending to our garden, finding out how our Southern European heritage has given us a similar appreciation for good local food and community.

The other gardeners are also so knowledgeable and willing to share with us young people, some of them have years and years of experience… I’ve sometimes found myself driving to the Farm to potter around our plot…just to catch a glimpse of the beautiful sunset…

I’m a lifetime Canberra local, yet I’ve really not found a place quite as special as this in our city before.

The Farm provides hope that the world can be transformed into a better place.

It is a place where like-minded people are working together to build a community dedicated to a more equitable local food system….a place where members can learn about producing food using techniques which are more aligned with the ecology of the local landscape… a place where systems for living more sustainably (not just related to food production) in the local landscape are explored and promoted.

While at the Farm I have learnt about vegetables, people, nature and myself. I am eternally grateful for the opportunities the Farm has provided and how it has enriched my life.

The Farm is such a diverse space. When I go there I feel the positive energy that comes with a community of like-minded people coming together to work, learn and share.

As an older person, life can easily get very lonely. The Farm offers the opportunity to connect with people with similar aspirations and interests, and to build a flourishing community… with people who also care about each other, as well as birds, insects and reptiles.

I have recently returned to Canberra after a 10 year absence, and the Farm is a keystone in my social and cultural life.  I would feel immeasurably poorer without it.
